RECIPE: Balsamic glazed salmon

RECIPE: Balsamic glazed salmon

INGREDIENTS

2 Salmon fillets

1 tablespoon of Tasteology garlic olive oil

2-3 cloves of crushed garlic

3-4 tablespoons of Tasteology Red Balsamic

1 tablespoon of dijon mustard

½ teaspoon Tasteology great barrier reef rock salt

¼ teaspoon Tasteology black pepper

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven to 200 degrees and line a baking tray with baking paper.

Heat the olive oil over medium in a small frypan. Add the garlic and cook for about 2 minutes or until it begins to brown, watch carefully so that it does not burn. Add the balsamic vinegar, honey, mustard, salt and pepper. Whisk and simmer until it thickens.

Put the salmon skin-side down on the baking paper and coat with the glaze using a pastry brush.

Bake for 5 minutes then brush again with the glaze. Put it back in the oven for 5 to 10 minutes, until the fish flakes easily with a fork and is cooked through. Serve with your favourite salad or veggies and enjoy.

Do you face roll?

Do you face roll?

Improve your circulation while de-puffing and lifting your skin with a face roller. The face roller is used for beautifying techniques like de-puffing and lifting skin. Facial rolling has become a popular facial technique that naturally stimulates blood circulation and lymphatic drainage for tired or congested skin. The facial roller can be used for lifting and sculpting, relaxing tight muscles that contribute to fine lines, and for de-puffing under-eyes and cheeks.

How to use your facial roller:

  • Moisten the skin with a gentle facial oil, like rosehip.
  • With gentle pressure, move in upward lifting motions from the centre of the face and out towards the hairline.
  • Stop and lightly press the tool in the hairline in front of and behind the ears to stimulate lymphatic drainage. Also follow the jawline and sides of the neck, where there are more drainage sites.
  • Do not roll over moles and avoid acne

The bee keepers honey

The bee keepers honey

Since Ancient times, honey has been used as both a food and a medicine. Bees collect sugar mainly from the sugar-rich nectar of flowers in their environment. Once inside the beehive, they repeatedly consume and regurgitate nectar, adding enzymes and fanning their wings to reduce the water content. The end product is honey which has been found to have many health benefits.

Honey contains bioactive plant compounds and antioxidants which have been linked to beneficial effects on heart health. Honey seems to have a positive effect on cholesterol levels and can lower triglyceride levels especially when used as a sugar substitute. Topical honey treatment has been used to heal wounds, burns and many other skin conditions since Ancient Egypt and is still common today.   Research has shown that raw honey can kill unwanted bacteria and fungus and it naturally contains hydroperoxide, which is used as an antiseptic. Some say honey can improve both short and long-term memory, especially in menopausal and post-menopausal women!!! Drinking honey in tea with lemon can ease throat pain which is great to know as we enter our cooler months. The healing components of honey are also used in many cosmetic skin and hair preparations, not only for their antiseptic and antioxidant potential but for the soothing and conditioning effects. Honey lubricates the skin and holds onto moisture making it an ideal ingredient in the production of beauty products ranging from lip balms, facial scrubs to shampoo.

So now you can think of honey as you would blueberries, broccoli, tea and dark green vegies!

Meet our gorgeous young beekeeper, Joe!

Joe is in his final year at Brisbane Grammar school and I am proud to say was the Dux last year!! He started beekeeping on his 16th birthday with a hive in his backyard. The hobby immediately captured his interest and grew into a deep passion, and his apiary expanded soon after. He has helped several new beekeepers start and manage their own hives, and now he is the proud owner of Mellifer Honey ( named for the honey bee, Apis mellifera ) as a sideline to his studies.

MELLIFER HONEY

330/500g of pure, raw and local Brisbane wildflower honey, extracted without heating or filtering to preserve all the goodness from our native and local floral sources.

Buying from a beekeeper like Joe gives you the assurance that all the goodness of honey is intact and you’ll have the added pleasure of knowing you are supporting a local Brisbane boy with a dream!

Meet the Lulasoul designer

Meet the Lulasoul designer

TELL ME ABOUT YOU. HOW DID YOU BECOME A FASHION DESIGNER?
As a young girl, I always loved clothes and fashion. I could not wait to go shopping at the start of each season to see the new fashions in the shops and buy new outfits. I have always loved to create and as a teenager, I would spend hours at fabric shops and making outfits to wear to dances, often inspired by video clips. After year 12, I studied fashion, majoring in design and pattern making. Since then, I have worked for a few different companies and labels as a lifestyle clothing designer. Lula Soul is definitely my favourite.

WHO IS THE LULASOUL WOMAN?
The Lula Soul woman is a confident person with an eye for detail. She requires her clothing to be comfortable and practical, to allow her to get through her busy day while looking fabulous. The Lula Soul woman is sure to get plenty of compliments wherever she goes.

WHAT IS YOUR INSPIRATION WHEN DESIGNING A RANGE?
I’m so lucky to live in Queensland with our amazing beaches and sunny skies. I take inspiration from all the colours and beauty around me. I design clothes to make people feel happy and confident.

WHAT WAS YOUR MAIN FOCUS WHEN DESIGNING THE LULASOUL TRANSEASONAL RANGE?
My main focus with the Transeasonal range was to provide clothing that would link the seasons, coming out of a hot summer and transitioning into winter. These clothes are still light enough for the warmer days but can be layered with jackets and jeans for the cooler nights.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PIECE FROM THE MAY COLLECTION?
I'm loving the Otto print with its muted colour tones in all the colour ways. I'm having trouble deciding between the top and the dress.

WHAT DO YOU DO TO MAINTAIN YOU?
I relish long walks on the beach. It is my form of mediation and relaxation, taking in all it has to offer to the senses. After a long walk, I feel reset and ready to take on the new week.

WHAT DO YOU NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT?
I never leave home without telling my family that I love them.

HOW HAS LULASOUL EVOLVED OVER TIME?
I have worked for the company for 10 years now. Lula Soul has evolved from using simple shapes and block prints to using many different forms of prints, embroidery and a vast amount of continually evolving shapes. I make it my duty to reduce the amount of non-recyclables as much as possible and only use ethical manufacturers.

WHAT IS YOUR FASHION MOTTO?
I believe that "you should wear the clothes; the clothes should not wear you". Meaning that you should always feel and look comfortable and at ease in the clothes you wear. They should be a reflection of your personality. There is nothing worse than seeing someone struggle in clothes that are too tight, or heels that are too high
